grandpa max erhardt
It has been a busy 2 weeks! My Grandpa Erhardt went to heaven last tuesday, May 19th at home with my Grandma at his side. I was given the opportunity to help take care of him at home on hospice for a few days after he had a stroke that compromised both this speech and swallowing abilities. Along with my Grandma, aunts and uncle my Grandpa did make the final decision not to have a feeding tube placed. Me, Joel and the kids drove to Center, ND to visit him one more time. Unfortunately, when we got there Grandpa already seemed to be slow to respond to people and was sleeping most of the days. I held his hand, touched his face and greeted him with “Hello Grandpa, it’s Marylou”! I will never forget his face and his big blue eyes as he lifted his head to try and respond! In my heart I believe that he knew I was there and was trying to say “hello” back to me. I am so grateful that I was able to help care for him while he was making his transition into heaven. It is something I will never ever forget. I thank my Grandma for trusting me to do so.
The funeral was beautiful and I know Grandpa is at peace. I am so happy he heard the organ play such beautiful music at his funeral. I love you Grandpa Erhardt and I thank you for all the fun memories! I have many! I hope to post one of my favorite pictures of Grandpa in a few weeks!
For now, I have a cute picture of me and the kids with my Grandma Erhardt that was taken last weekend!
